Winston Churchill's Cursing Parrot and Other Spoiled Feathered Celebrities: Parrots Living the High Life

When we think of luxury, celebrities and royals with their yachts and palatial homes usually come to mind. But it turns out, their beloved pets—especially parrots—are enjoying a similarly cushy lifestyle. These pampered parrots live in gold-lined cages, dine on gourmet meals, and even enjoy spa days! From royal aviaries to celebrity mansions, here’s a look at some of the most spoiled parrots in the world and the quirky perks that make their lives so extravagant.

1. The Royal Feathered Companions

Let’s start with Queen Elizabeth II’s pampered parrots. Although the Queen was famously known for her corgis, she also had a deep love for birds, especially parrots. In her Buckingham Palace aviary, the birds live in actual gold-gilded cages—we're talking about cages with bars plated in 24-karat gold, ensuring that even their homes shimmer with royalty! These parrots enjoy the luxury of a palace chef preparing their meals. Imagine a bird’s breakfast that includes hand-peeled grapes, organic nuts, and tropical fruits flown in from around the world—nothing less for the Queen’s fine-feathered friends.

But that’s not all. The parrots are assigned personal attendants who engage with them daily, even playing Mozart and Beethoven softly in the background to enrich their cultural experience. Now that’s what we call a royal touch!

Speaking of royalty, we can’t forget Coco, Queen Victoria’s African grey parrot. Coco wasn’t just your ordinary parrot—oh no! He had a throne of his own. That’s right: Coco’s cage was designed to resemble a tiny throne room complete with velvet cushions and gold trim. Queen Victoria adored him, and rumor has it that Coco could perfectly mimic the Queen’s regal tone of voice, often pretending to issue royal decrees to startled palace visitors!

2. Winston Churchill’s Beloved Parrot: Charlie

When it comes to spoiled parrots, Winston Churchill’s blue-and-gold macaw, Charlie, is a legendary example. Charlie, who lived in Churchill’s country estate Chartwell, wasn’t just a regular pet. In fact, Charlie had a bit of an attitude and was famous for cursing out Hitler during the height of World War II. Churchill supposedly found Charlie’s foul language endlessly amusing, and he often fed Charlie premium whiskey-soaked nuts—because why wouldn’t a parrot deserve a stiff drink during wartime?

Charlie also had access to the finest “aviary” equipment. He had a bespoke, climate-controlled birdcage, complete with hand-carved perches imported from the tropical jungles of South America. This wasn’t just a cage—it was a palace for parrots! Charlie was also treated to daily grooming sessions, where palace staff meticulously cleaned his feathers and ensured his talons were always trimmed. Only the best for Churchill’s feathered companion!

3. Hollywood’s High-Flying Stars

Celebrities are known to spoil their pets, and parrots are no exception. Ellen DeGeneres’ macaw, Tika, lives in such luxury that it’s hard to believe a bird could have it this good. Tika has a custom-designed aviary in Ellen’s Malibu estate, equipped with waterfall fountains, tropical plants, and swings that resemble mini palm trees. It's basically a birdie mansion. Tika also has an entire wardrobe of haute couture bird outfits, made by designers who specialize in exotic pets. Yes, there are bird fashion designers!

Ellen even has a dedicated bird trainer who visits weekly to teach Tika new words and phrases—Tika’s latest catchphrase? “I’m fabulous!” Which, honestly, couldn’t be more appropriate.

Then there’s Pablo, boxer Mike Tyson’s African grey parrot. Tyson spares no expense when it comes to Pablo’s comfort. Tyson had a mini boxing ring built into Pablo’s cage, complete with tiny boxing gloves (for decoration, of course) to honor his career. Tyson also feeds Pablo only the best organic snacks, sourced from exotic markets and vetted by a team of avian nutritionists. Pablo even has his own parrot-sized treadmill—because staying fit is just as important as looking good!

4. The Aristocratic Aviary of Princess Stéphanie of Monaco

Royalty knows how to spoil their pets, and Princess Stéphanie of Monaco is no different. Her parrots don’t just live in any aviary—they live in a climate-controlled aviary complete with silk hammocks, so they can nap in comfort. These birds enjoy a weekly spa day, which includes feather massages and mani-pedis to ensure their talons are always in top shape. And when it comes to food? Stéphanie’s parrots are treated to a five-course meal that would rival anything served at a Michelin-star restaurant, with exotic fruits and nuts arranged in intricate patterns by their very own parrot chef.

One of her birds, an Amazon parrot named Louis, is said to have a personal fountain in his aviary, and rumor has it, the water is filtered with minerals to keep his feathers extra shiny.
